Casa Herminia
Punta del Este, UruguayPhotographer | Sebastián Aguilar
Set along Uruguay's rugged coastline, Casa Herminia beach house is built to withstand harsh winters and fierce southerly winds. Durable materiality and light-filled interiors combine in a home built for generations to gather and unwind.
The architecture relies on weather-tested materials: weathered timber decking, crisp white stucco, and resilient lapacho wood accents. The protected outdoor living features a sun-dappled wooden pergola, a sheltered lap pool extending toward the horizon, and direct beach access. Inside, seamless micro-cement floors and expansive glass walls create a luminous backdrop that frames dramatic ocean views. The minimalist interiors balance serene white spaces with playful, eclectic injections of color, from olive green outdoor dining sets and crimson vanity accents to vibrant lacquered furnishings and traditional Asian casegoods the owners collected over time. Thoughtfully zoned for both lively group gatherings and quiet solitary retreats, Casa Herminia is a home built to provide for generations.
